These practices then lead to God's work of humbling us. Three causes for God's work of humiliation are self-righteousness, self-centeredness, and self-exaltation. In order to avoid humiliation, we are to practice humility in repentance. This is done by giving glory to the One who deserves it, acknowledging our own smallness, and practicing corporate praise.

In studying Daniel 4 we discover that when it comes to pride we often fluctuate between reality and elevated self importance. It is clear to see that prosperity is harder to live with than poverty. It is evident that God - in His grace - gives us ample warnings about the pride in our life. To combat this pride we need to recognize that the sovereignty of God is the great equalizer while also investing in the accountability of compassionate and truth-telling friends.

- In His sovereignty, God moves leaders and nations for his purposes (Dan. 2:37)

- In His plan: God will set up a kingdom that will endure forever (2:44)
