The Do's and Don'ts of Repentance

• DO it today—don’t delay.

• DO it for love—love God more than your fickle desires (Deut. 6:5).

• DON’T do it superficially—think about what you were willing to lose.

• DON’T do it deceptively—be more concerned about what God knows than what others see.

God's Relationship With You

•God’s relationship with you is not based upon your performance but on his love (3:1).

•God’s discipline of you is not permanent but restorative (1:10-11)

•God’s plan for you is for your good and his glory (1:4, 11; 2:22)

When Circumstances go from Bad to Worse:

 

•See your hard times as controlled by God; they have a specific duration of time (Deut. 8:2a).

•See your hard times as a gift from God; they reveal areas for spiritual growth (Deut. 8:2b).

•See your hard times as intended for reliance on God; they humble you, so you can trust him (8:3)

•See your hard times as designed for the glory of God; they help you pursue God not pleasure (8:7)

Asking God “when” is best asked by those:

(1)Who have a personal relationship with God (1:2)

(2)Who have prayed consistently to him (1:2)

(3)Who have a greater concern for the wrongs done against others than themselves (1:2)

 

Asking God “why” is best asked by those:

(1)Who acknowledge the providence of God in theirlife (1:3)

(2)Who embrace the Scripture-derived character of God (1:3)

(3)Who desire for hearts to be receptive to God’s Word (1:4)
